Adecco Staffing’s parent company, The Adecco Group, partnered with INSEAD, The Business School for the World, and the Human Capital Leadership Institute of Singapore to produce the fourth annual Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI). The GTCI is an annual benchmarking report that analyzes data from 118 countries around the world to measure their ability to compete for talent.

Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2017 Rankings: Top Ten

  1. Switzerland
  2. Singapore
  3. United Kingdom
  4. United States
  5. Sweden
  6. Australia
  7. Luxembourg
  8. Denmark
  9. Finland
  10. Norway

The U.S. ranked 4th out of 118 countries for the third consecutive year.

The theme of the fourth edition of the GTCI is Talent and Technology: Shaping the Future of Work. The study focuses on how technological advances affect talent competitiveness and the nature of work.

Leading the way in growth

The U.S. leads the way in its ability to grow its own talent, whether through formal education, lifelong training, access to growth opportunities or access to networks. The U.S. has a large pool of global knowledge skills, which deal with knowledge workers in professional, managerial, or leadership roles that require creativity and problem-solving.

Also, the U.S. remains highly attractive to immigrants, ranking sixth in the world for “brain gain.”

Areas for Improvement

The pillar on Vocational and Technical skills represents one of the greatest challenges for the U.S., where the country was ranked 20th. In other words, the number of people who have the skills needed to be technicians is rather small given the size of the country.

The GTCI also pointed out the need for more stakeholder connectedness in order to best position the country for talent readiness in technology.

“Technological advancement is rapidly changing the way we work, and developing a strong workforce with the right skills is more urgent than ever,” said Bob Crouch, chief executive officer of The Adecco Group’s North American region. “We must look forward and determine ways to ensure that the United States is equipped with a diverse, specialized talent pool that can meet the demands of work today and in the future.”
