Governor’s Commission on Employment of People with Disabilities Honors Adecco

Leominster, MA (October 9, 2007) – Today, Adecco received an Exemplary Employer Award  from Governor Deval L. Patrick and The Governor’s Commission on Employment of People with Disabilities. Adecco was nominated for this recognition by The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) for its strength and dedication to employ and retain people with disabilities, and for exceeding the “reasonable accommodation” requirements under the state and federal laws.

“We are so honored to have this recognition,” said Felicia M. Nurmsen, Branch Manager for Adecco’s Leominster location. “’Better Work, Better Life’ is our company’s signature statement, and it is particularly meaningful for individuals with disabilities who are seeking employment. Our team is so proud that we’ve been able to help more than 60 people in the local area during the past several years find meaningful work.”

In partnership with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission for the past eight years, Adecco has offered free assessment, training and job placement services for job seekers with disabilities. Most recently Ms. Nurmsen and William Allen, Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Placement Coordinator for MRC launched a pilot “On-the-Job” Evaluation Program, which enables candidates with disabilities to spend some time on-site working in order to prove to themselves and employers that they are willing and able to work.  Due to the success over the last 10 months this program is being rolled out to other Adecco locations in Massachusetts and New England.

The other part of the formula for success in placing disabled candidates is the “can do, will do, will fit” environment at Adecco. Nurmsen has created a culture where her team is focused on finding competitive employment for people based on their abilities regardless of whether or not they have a disability.

About the award: Since 1988 the Governor’s Commission on Employment of People with Disabilities has recognized employers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who have an exemplary record of recruiting, hiring and retaining citizens with disabilities who are willing and able to work. This prestigious award is given to select groups of employers whom have gone above and beyond with “reasonable accommodations” Each year the award recognizes those employers that are doing what is right to help qualified individuals with disabilities contribute to the world of work.
