Position Details:
Position: Mortgage Loan Underwriter
Location: Greensboro, NC


Job Description:

Employees will perform detailed pre-funding underwriting analyses on conforming loans for both credit and documentation deficiencies and determine marketability of each loan. Approve acceptable loans within delegated lending authority.
Perform detailed pre-funding underwriting analyses on more complex mortgages exceeding the conforming loan limit and complex self-employed borrowers which pose higher credit risk. Approve acceptable loans within delegated lending authority.
Perform detailed pre-funding underwriting analyses on all construction/perm loans for both credit and appraisal characteristics. Approve acceptable loans within delegated lending authority.
Perform post-purchase credit and property reviews on loans purchased from Correspondents with Delegated Underwriting Authority.
Provide assistance and direction to Correspondents on issues regarding the bank, FHLMC, and FNMA lending policies, procedures, and compliance issues.
Correspond with MI companies regarding loan approvals, securing required information, and clarifying bank and/or Investor guidelines.
Request additional information and/or documentation from Correspondents as needed.
Assist other Department personnel in interpreting underwriting changes and distributing information to Correspondents.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Competencies:

1. Minimum five years experience in Underwriting, mortgage loan production, processing, closing or loan review
2. High school graduate, some business school and prior work experience or equivalent education and related training
3. Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally
4. Proven ability to make accurate decisions within acceptable timeframes
5. Solid working knowledge of FHLMC/FNMA, FHA, and VA guidelines
6. Proficient problem-solving ability
