Position Overview:

Under general supervision and direction, the Mechanical Engineer creates and develops component and product designs utilizing approved procedures. Develops and presents alternatives or recommendations relative to assigned projects. Sound knowledge of design practices and principles including engineeng computation, geometric dimesioning and tolerancing, and scientific test methods. Working knowledge of high volume production process, materials, tooling and equipment.

Job Summary:

Develops and maintains product lines in accordance with industry standards and OEM customer requirements.
Responsible for generating continuous improvement and cost reduction of assigned product lines.
Responsible for the engineering database (specifications, drawings, procedures) for assigned product lines.
Consults with and coordinates the engineering effort with customers, Marketing, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
May perform other special duties or projects as requested by Product Engineering Manager.

Required Skills: Education/Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
Working knowledge of mechanical engineering practices, standards/specs, computers, engineering software, planning, communication, presentation, facilitation, and analytical skills.
Design experience in mechanical design, surveying equipment, metallurgy, and exposure to electronic design.
Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably a metal cutting environment, with knowledge of machining methodologies and practices.
Experience working with vendors that supply precision machined parts.
Experienced with the application of tools and techniques required for Quality Management and Continuous Process Improvement (e.g. Black belt, Green belt certificate).

Desired Skills:

Written and oral command of the English language is essential.
Must have outstanding interpersonal, communication and leadership skills along with demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment throughout all levels of the organization.
Candidate should be results oriented with good project management, organizational, prioritization, and team-based skills.
Ability to work in a diverse team environment including decentralized engineering teams on an international basis.
Ability to be creative and innovative, and to meet customer requirements in cost effective and elegant ways.
Strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills. Must possess a pro-active, methodical and logical approach in problem solving.
Accountable for meeting commitments and deadlines.
Able to quickly change priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Must be able to self-manage and self-check.
Listening and conflict management skills are also important.
