Quality Compliance Engineer – Southern, NH
$70K - $75K + Bonus
SUMMARY:
This individual is responsible to provide regulatory interpretation & guidance cross functionally to the business, specifically supporting Product Development and Marketing department to ensure compliance with company standards as well as the various legal requirements of the receiving countries company sells and/or ships products to.
This role is responsible to provide all nutritional labeling (NLEA) related information for new or modified products that are intended for sale in the US, Canada or other countries as apply. In addition this individual is responsible to develop, implement and maintain a professional sensory evaluation system at the NH facility for new and existing products.
This individual will establish and maintain a professional in-house sensory panel and will assist management with special projects within R&D / QA department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide guidance regarding the interpretation of federal and state regulatory requirements related to new developed products, revised products and new raw materials to ensure company compliance.
Identify, assess and clearly communicate to the business any regulatory risks as well as recommended actions.
Provide guidance and assistance with legal labeling & nutritional requirements within the department as well as to other cross functional departments.
Responsible for establishing and reviewing nutritional, ingredient and allergen statements on labels to ensure compliance with internal procedures/standards as well as state and federal regulations.
To ensure transparency, work with cross functional departments to develop and maintain a manual that includes templates for nutritional & packaging labeling (NLEA) templates that comply with state and federal regulations.
Manage and maintain QA documents including but not limited to raw material Specification, kosher certificates, health certificates to assure compliance with company standards.
Ensure that annual permits required by the company are renewed and kept up to date.
Confirm all new raw materials to ensure compliance with company standards.
Establish & maintain an automated library of finished goods specifications that can be easily accessed by internal customers such as Marketing & Sales & D2C.
Maintain up to date knowledge of government regulatory and legislative activities established by federal and state agencies in the area of food labeling and compliance.
Develop, implement and maintain daily sensory testing of produced goods to ensure compliance with product standards.
Develop, implement and maintain shelf life testing of semi finished and finished products to monitor the quality of products made.
Manage the process for determining the shelf life of new and existing products in order to ensure shelf life decisions are made on the basis of sensory analysis and state of the art methods.
Recruiting and training employees to participate in an in-house panel that conducts professional sensory testing of current, revised and new products.
Establish and maintain an automated, professional system to administer and analyze sensory data. Develop executive summaries based upon analysis and interpretation of the data.
Assist the Marketing Department to develop a sustainable, active consumer panel for purposes of conducting consumer insight testing outside the facility.
Assist with QA and R&D department with projects as assigned.
Actively participate in a Food science related professional organization to maintain personal networking in field of regulatory/ compliance and sensory evaluation.
REQUIREMENTS:
Proven knowledge of food safety& regulatory requirements
Expertise in Food regulation & legislation (North East US, US, Canada, Mexico)
Thorough knowledge of food sensory evaluation
Detail oriented supported by a high level of attention to details.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills
Proven self management skills and ability to multi-task/prioritize workload.
Solid analytical skills
Experience with Genesis a plus
7+ years working in quality within a food manufacturing environment.
Proven experience with food regulatory and compliance field.
Proven experience with developing, evaluating and implementing food evaluation processes and programs.
Experience with establishing a sensory panel within a food manufacturing environment a plus
Experience working and/or leading cross functional teams
BS degree in food science or related field with commensurate experience
Certificate in food regulation compliance or commensurate experience is required
Education in Sensory evaluation of food a plus and preferred
