Polymerization Lab - Catalyst Evaluation Operator/Technician

Job Description:

Operation of Polymerization Reactions for catalyst evaluation

The operator/technician must have the ability to monitor and control polymerization reactions using computer interface. This includes Reactor Prep and reactor break down between reactions
The operator/technician is required to work in a dry box with air and moisture sensitive materials. This includes weighing small amounts (5-200mg) of catalyst powder, and making slurries with dry solvents (isohexane, toluene, etc)
The operator/technician is responsible for inventory of materials needed for laboratory operation. (i.e., Raw Materials, tools, parts, etc)
Maintenance of Sample Retain System and sample shipment preparation
The operator/technician is responsible for maintaining a six-month inventory of each batch of commercially produced samples that are tested in the polymer laboratory. Sample older than six months are disposed of properly.
The operator/technician is also responsible for the preparation of customer-required retain samples for shipment. These samples are sent out for each production campaign.

Data Generation and Communication

The operator/technician is responsible for the data generated by each polymerization reaction. The results of catalyst productivity, melt flow analysis, bulk density, and particle size distribution are recorded in a spreadsheet and updated daily
The data is also logged out and sent to the proper person via a LIMS system. Then samples are to be logged out as soon as the results are available
Raw Material Purification System Maintenance
The operator/technician is responsible for the regeneration of the raw material purification system. This requires the operator/technician use and sign off on a standard operating procedure given for this task

Other Responsibilities and Qualifications

The operator/technician will be required to use a forklift to move gas cylinders into place for use
The operator/technician must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, be able to use standard hand tools (i.e. wrenches)
The operator/technician is responsible for the general housekeeping of workstations, reactor hoods, dry boxes, workbenches, raw material areas, and general lab areas
The operator/technician adheres to all lab and operational safety protocols and procedures set by client
