Job Description
Support Existing and Developing Designs, Research and Develop materials purchase documentation and related fabrication processes.
Optimize Materials and Processes for use in engineering designs.
Applies principals of chemistry, physics, metallurgy and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite materials.
As needed, Perform failure analysis.
Review and approve subcontractor procedures.
Define testing in-house and external laboratories as required.
Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry material specifications and quality assurance codes and standards
Analyze existing materials and their related fabrication processes to optimize materials for use in engineering design
Review engineering drawings to ensure correct materials are being used
Recommend material alternatives for quality enhancements/cost reductions
Provide detailed process instructions to add to existing drawings regarding epoxies, some metals
Document material selections; communicate with vendors and customers relating to material choices
Work with supply chain and procurement channels for materials
Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry material specifications and quality assurance codes and standards
Basic Qualifications:
BS/BE degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, Physics or equivalent and a minimum of 15 years experience in the field of Material Science or Material Engineering. Masters Degree a plus.
Experience in the Spaceflight and/or military industry
Good verbal, documentation and presentation skills.
Fully competent in Microsoft Office.
A working knowledge and the ability to read drawings using Pro/E.
A background in Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma or equivalent preferred.
