Position Overview:
This position is located in the Business Systems Organization within the IT department. The role of the System Administrator is to provide operating system support in order to provide sustainable, stable and secure enterprise level servers including backup recovery, performance tuning, upgrades/patches, maintenance, troubleshooting, permissions and file sharing.
Position Responsibilities:
Support application packaging for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 deployment at a Federal agency.
Packaging in-house development and commercial type applications using Flexera AdminStudio packaging software following an established process and workflow.
Building application installation packages in Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) and Microsoft Windows Transform (MST) format.
Re-package server applications, upgrades, and utility software using Flexera AdminStudio
Work with development and system subject matter experts (SME) to automate application installation
Creating, editing, and updating packaging process documentation
Adherence to all existing application packaging processes, best practices, procedures, and work instructions.
Investigation and troubleshooting of application packaging issues.
The Packager is responsible for the creation of automated application and system installations.
Day to day creation of application and system MSI packages.
Working with development and system subject matter experts (SME) to identify and develop solutions for application installation automation.
Position Requirements:
5 – 9 years Experience - Computer Technology or related field.
UndergraduateCollegeDegree – Computer Technology or related field.

Experience working with Microsoft Windows Installer Custom Actions
Using investigation and troubleshooting tools (Process Monitor, Orca, CMD Shell, etc.) to resolve package issues
Creating, editing, and updating process documentation
Scripting skills (VBScript, PowerShell, and Batch)
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with commercially and in-house developed software applications, and delivery tools.
Oral and written communication skills sufficient to convey technical advice and information to clients and coworkers who have varying degrees of ability with Information Technology.
Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008R2, server based application installations and configuration, and server bases solutions and systems (.NET, IIS, Active Directory, etc.)
Additional Requirements:
Provide on-call and backup support for existing systems and functions. Location for on-call and backup support may be at Client facilities or off-site.
Required to carry a Client supplied cell phone/pager and work non-core hours when requested.
Carry out assigned tasks with a professional demeanor reflected in excellent written and oral communication skills, listening skills, patience, analytical reasoning and problem solving abilities.
Ability to meet timelines, milestones, deliverables and provide timely (weekly) status updates.
Communicate technical information verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical users.
Provide a sustainable IT infrastructure by supplying cross training and functional documentation.
Understand and follow established processes and procedures including Change Management, Work Tracking and Time Management.
