In this position candidates will provide technical expertise, support and guidance in the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of SQL/MySQL database systems. This position is critical to enhancing the customer's hosted platform and requires an individual with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work across complex systems requiring high levels of reliability and performance. Current data environments include MySQL CE 5.5.16 and Access 2010.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Build, deploy, and administer proprietary relational database in line with customer requirements to include schema migration from current hosted provider
Maintain integrity of the local database environment for tuning and performance; employ effective methods to optimize stability, improve performance and ensure reliability
Build and implement database tools and scripts (e.g. SQL, VB, PHP) for automation
Normalization of legacy database architectures into a relational MySQL schema
Monitor database to identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot problems
Refine stored procedures to ensure clean data transfer to hosted staging server for web application deployment
Interface with external UI/UX developer team to ensure data compatibility and maximize application performance
Test and deploy security, backup and recovery solutions including COOP development and implementation (e.g. offsite replication, database clustering)
Develop application interface procedures to exceed current OWASP Top 10 web application security certification
Draft and maintain technical documentation
Coordinate with Network Administrator for capacity planning and to ensure adequate system resources
Collaborate with project staff to evolve database architecture and build new web-based applications and interfaces
Identify opportunities for web application development, system architecture and database design
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Proficiency with MySQL, SQL, including triggers and stored procedures (current operating versions)
Understands database monitoring tools and their implementation including MySQL Workbench and MySQL Query Analyzer
Clean-sheet relational database design and implementation experience
Experience building and optimizing databases for application performance (including performance tuning and load testing)
Demonstrates organized, traceable coding practice
Has experience in intermediate Visual Basic and other programming environments in developing end-user tools (e.g. Excel macros)
Strong documentation and technical writing skills
Ability to interact and communicate effectively with staff across all levels, developers, and vendors
Knowledge of software design and/or Object-Oriented Programming - especially Ruby on Rails, Ajax, Java and Force.com - is a competitive advantage
EDUCATION & EXPERIEN CE
At least three years’ experience handling full life-cycle database administration with some development.
Demonstrated experience in Windows Server environments and Microsoft Office applications
