Thought leadership drives results in remote market

The Client: Leading U.S. steel manufacturer

Case Studies

The Challenge

Adecco’s client, located in a remote market, struggled with fill rate levels and associate retention.

The Strategy and Solution

Adecco developed a client- and market-specific program to enhance our client’s competitive position in today’s rapidly changing labor market. One of Adecco’s primary goals is to understand our clients well enough to represent them as an extension of their human resource department.

Adecco colleagues are encouraged to listen to our clients, and to be industry-focused, consultative and relationship-oriented, enabling them to gain knowledge about our clients’ corporate culture. With a new plant manager and human resource manager steering the client’s contingent labor program, our team focused on increasing communication, sharing program best practices and imparting our market expertise.

Activities included:

  • Location visits to understand company culture and history
  • Verifying job descriptions and identifying characteristics of successful candidates
  • Educating ourselves on how to best share with external candidates the benefits of becoming part of the client’s family
  • Providing thought leadership through demographic and economic market analysis; supply, demand and compensation analysis; industry trend and competitor reporting
  • Engaging regional leadership to build relationships and drive communication
    • Regional operations manager (ROM) and regional vice president (RVP) conducted weekly calls with servicing branch to review openings, challenges and strategies
    • National account director (NAD) conducted bi-weekly calls with Adecco team, client plant manager and human resources manager to discuss current associate performance, forecasting and demand planning
    • Providing a customized part-time onsite model
    • Improved visibility of program governance
    • Increased communication with associates and hiring managers

Results/ROI

Adecco’s ability to utilize market expertise to work with our client to bring wages in line with their competitors and to customize a program to meet our client’s unique needs provided significant returns including:

  • Increased pipelines of qualified candidates
  • Able to attract the right talent for the client and location
  • Increased placement numbers
  • Orders increased by 45% from Q1 to Q4
  • Increased retention
  • Turnover dropped nearly seven percent from Q1 to Q4
