For the first time in history, there are four generations in the workplace at the same time. And while you may be familiar with their different names – Traditionalists, Baby Boomers Generation X and Millennials – you may not understand just how different they really are. That's why we put together our white paper – to help you understand the makeup of the modern workforce, how it is changing, and how members of each generation tend to think, act and work.

Different ages. Different perspectives.

The members of the different generations are not just separated by years, they are separated by experiences. For example, Traditionalists were born between 1925 and 1945, and they were heavily influenced by World War II and the Great Depression. As a result, they value savings, appreciate hard work and are, for the most part, conservative.

The next generation, on the other hand, is the Baby Boomers. They were born between 1946 and 1964, and came of age during a period of bountiful optimism. They are independent multi-taskers who are willing to work long hours to get what they want.

Generation X is made up of those born 1964-1977. Divorce rates skyrocketed, the Berlin Wall fell and inflation sank the economy. It’s no wonder, then, that they are risk-averse, somewhat untrusting and view work as a means to supporting themselves above all else.

Lastly, Millennials – born between 1978 and 1989 – are flooding the workforce right now. They grew up with a computer in their homes, and as a result are at home online and comfortable with technology. They desire to get more out of work than just a paycheck, and they want to have an influence on the companies for which they work.

Take an in-depth look at the four different generations in the workplace.

These are just a few facts about the backgrounds of the different generations. Our white paper can help you move forward by giving you a deep level of understanding of each generation’s values, work style and lifestyle.

In addition, this valuable resource offers management tips tailored to each generation so that you can bring everyone together.
