Summary
This function is responsible of verifying that the Cleaning and Sanitation policies and procedures are followed and ensuring that the plant is prepared to start operations under clean and sanitary conditions. This role monitors and supervises the cleaning and sanitation process (weather internal or contracted) and the Preventive maintenance Program in order to ensure their effectiveness and adherence to regulatory compliance programs, industry practices, and plant standards.

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintains and updates the Master Cleaning and Sanitation Schedule and verifies the Preventive Maintenance Program, ensuring they are appropriate and effective
  • Supports and Monitors the cleaning and sanitation process performed by operations, maintenance, internal cleaning and sanitation crew, and/or the cleaning contractor, driving improvement towards minimizing the number of pre-operational deficiencies in cleaning and sanitation, reducing product loss, and optimization of water and chemical usage.
  • Supports Maintenance Team in daily assembly, cleaning, and disassembly of equipment as required by the Master Cleaning and Sanitation Schedule and the Preventive Maintenance Program.
  • Coordinates cross functionally with other departments to ensure appropriate attention is given to dry pick up, housekeeping, and regular cleaning after production hours, and other activities related to the effectiveness of cleaning and sanitation.
  • Evaluates facility cleaning and sanitation conditions visually and analytically to assess risk based on food safety and public health principles and prioritizes corrective actions.
  • Responsible for all analysis and reporting analytical results and trends relevant to monitoring and verifying the effectiveness of the cleaning and sanitation process and other pre-requisite programs, including, but not limited to:
        • Performance during dry pick up conducted by operations and/or the cleaning company.
        • Progress of daily and non-daily cleaning scheduled tasks.
        • Correct application of chemicals, appropriate drain baskets management and resources usage.
        • Verification of cleaning efficiency with ATP swab and implementation of corrective actions.
        • Verification of sanitation efficiency with Environmental Pre-Operational swab results and implementation of corrective actions.
        • Responsible for monitoring and verifying adequate implementation of cleaning and sanitation activities in support of the pre-requisite programs (Allergen Control, Pest Control, Chemical Control, Glass and Brittle, etc.)
        • Identifies and documents Pre-Operational deficiencies
  • Acts as lead in the process of assessing and mitigating food safety risks associated with construction and major maintenance projects.
  • Audits processes and documentation against the consistent application and execution of SSOPs, SPSs, and all related sanitation practices.
  • Conducts SQF internal audits, elaborates reports, and maintains record keeping, as they relate to sanitary design of equipment and facilities.
  • Liaison with third party contractor on documentation to support the SQF Program.

*Mechanic Supervisor 3rd Shift will assume the role in absence of the Sanitation Lead

Qualification Requirements:

  • B.S. degree minimum, with basic statistical knowledge or + 3 years’ experience in related area.
  • Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, Outlook, and capable of data analysis and interpretation. 
  • Must be effective performer, who can operate within strict timelines and adapt to a fast-paced multi-task environment. 
  • Must be self-motivated, committed to performing quality work and able to work within a team environment. 
  • Must be willing to complete assigned tasks and willing to take ownership and accountability of projects from start to completion. 
  • Must be able to attend technical meetings to continually update knowledge in advances in cleaning, sanitation or other Pre-requisite Programs.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Possess the skill set to effectively and clearly communicate at all levels within and outside of the Company. Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Thorough understanding of all Company policies, including GMP’s, Cleaning and Sanitation Standards, and safety policies, HACCP & SQF. Must have knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Successful candidate will be trained in areas including, but not limited to: Cleaning and Sanitation, HACCP, and SQF.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move around the facility.  The employee is required to sit, use hands to handle, or feel/hold objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; speak, hear, and smell.  Employee may occasionally lift, push/pull up to forty (40) pounds.
  • Work environment includes a normal office environment as well as exposure to cleaning and sanitation chemicals and climate extremes. Noise level varies upon area of facility where employee is performing responsibilities.
