Location: Newark, NJ – No relocation assistance, per diem, or other expenses can be offered

End Date: 1 year contract
Pay Rate: $50.00 per hour (depending on years of experience)

Analyst– Trading Oversight

Primary Purpose of the Position
This position provides key analytical functions required to monitor PSEG Energy Resources and Trade’s (ER&T’s) physical energy asset trading activities, including activities associated with: 1) bidding electricity generating resources and obligations into Independent System Operator (ISO) markets; and 2) fulfilling contractual obligations under wholesale energy asset management contracts such as ER&T’s contracts with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA)

Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor for rule compliance on the bidding of generating assets into ISO energy, ancillary services, and capacity markets, as well as the bidding of other ISO transactions (e.g. load, transmission, FTRs, etc.)
- Monitor for contract performance on activities under ER&T’s asset management contracts, including the LIPA contracts
- Prepare and report on daily/monthly analyses of performance to benchmarks and key performance indicators to be used in management review meetings
- Develop and maintain Excel models used for daily/monthly reporting and supporting procedural documentation

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, economics or other quantitative discipline
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical skills, and natural curiosity regarding financial metrics and key business drivers
- Ability to delve into details and insure accuracy and high quality of team outputs
- Ability to work well with other groups while maintaining independence of judgment and reporting
- Strong attention to detail and sense of ownership
- Ability to interface with people at a wide range of levels including energy traders, bidding analysts and senior level management
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to handle multiple duties
- Able to work and problem solve independently, to organize workload and priorities, and complete tasks on time
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required
- High level of maturity and respect for confidentiality
- Ability to handle and manage large data sets
- Enthusiastic self-starter with an ambition to grow through the role

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with power generation technology and cost management, including: associated performance metrics (capacity, heat rates, performance factors, emission rates)
- Experience with wholesale fuel (gas, oil) and emission allowance markets, preferably including markets relevant to NJ, PA, NY and New England
- Experience monitoring operating compliance to complex sets of rules, including tracking new rule development, interpreting rules, and assessing compliance of complex operations to these rules
- Experience with monitoring financial commodity hedging and energy portfolio risk management
- Experience in documenting reporting requirements and designing new business reports

May be required to pass a pre-placement skills test
