Assessment Assistants on the Alternate Test Formatting (ATF) team provide on-demand services by formatting tests to meet the needs of test takers requiring special accommodations. ATF Assessment Assistants manage the end-to-end process of converting a standard test form to any of the many alternate formats such as large print, braille, or audio versions.

Responsibilities for this position include:

• Assist in developing and assembling tests or pools of questions to meet specifications and assist in developing accessible questions and tests.
• Adapt item types to meet accessibility standards in accordance with client requirements.
• Collect and update information on test development procedures, test specifications, and educational practices and trends through Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and accessibility standards
• Use test assembly software to review functionality of items tagged for accessibility in the assembly of tests or pools of items.
• Critically review items written by colleagues and outside item writers.
• Assist in developing paper test formats and implement item accessible features for a program or program.
• Coordinate assignments to vendors and monitor the completion and quality of their work according to schedule and specifications for braille and audio.
• May assist in preparing alternate text for test-related materials for publications such as descriptive or instructional brochures.

Candidates should meet the following requirements for consideration:

• Bachelor’s degree in field of specialty (Education, Special Ed, or Psychology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and experience can be acquired is required.
• Knowledge of industry best practices of students with disabilities, best practice of accessibility standards; Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of captioning experience for closed captioning for video content is desirable.
• Well-developed organizational skills, strong technical skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and a willingness/adeptness with regards to learning new technology are required.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, and experience working with internal and external customers are required.
