Bilingual Spanish Editor / Proofreader (freelance)

Adecco Creative is assisting our client, a private nonprofit educational testing and assessment organization, in their search for a freelance Bilingual Spanish Editor / Proofreader. This is a full time freelance role, working 40 hours per week onsite in the client’s Princeton, NJ offices, and expected to last 3-4 months with the possibility of being extended. 

Interested applicants must have reliable transportation.

The Bilingual Editor / Proofreader will be responsible for correcting copy using in-house style guides to produce error-free work. Job responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive editing, consultation, and resource services for test items and test-related materials.
  • Identifying and correcting grammar, punctuation, style, and usage errors in all materials assigned.
  • Ensuring consistency of style, accuracy of content, and delivering the highest overall editorial quality.
  • Acting as the primary resource for assessment specialists and other staff on matters of grammar, style, syntax, content, and fairness.
  • Organizing, tracking, and scheduling workload to meet delivery dates and budget requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or a closely related field is a MUST.
  • Previous editorial experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read and edit in Spanish.
  • Deep familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed., is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional grammar and editing skills: thorough knowledge of current standards of English grammar, usage, and research methods--including Internet searches.
  • Ability to work independently in a highly focused manner and remain engaged.
  • Ability to work comfortably with complex and difficult testing materials.
  • Ability to adapt readily and successfully to changes in the work environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of productivity and to work with ease under deadline pressure.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite. Ability to quickly become adept at new computer systems.
