POSITION: Material Movement Assistant
LOCATION: Morrisville, NC (Zip 27560)
DURATION: 10/31/2018
PAY RATE: $20 to $25 per hour depending on qualifications
HOURS: 40 hrs per week - 1st Shift

Biological Material Movement Assistant (BMMC Assistant)
RATES: The pay rate will range from $20 to $25 per hour depending on qualifications.
The position is within the North American Movement Team of the Global Biosafety function. The Movement Team is responsible for achieving compliance with local and international rules, company policies and procedures, and provides expertise, training and support to those planning and moving biological material within, into or out of North America.

To ensure that the movement of biological material within and between different legal entities of internal divisions and to third parties fulfills internal quality standards, regulatory, intellectual property, and legal requirements as evidenced by an auditable trail of documents created in an efficient manner.
Compliance with rules and requirements is essential to avoid fines/penalties, reduce lost time due to incidents or non-conformities, gain respect from regulatory agencies with whom the company needs to work with and avoid potential damage to reputation.

The primary job duties and responsibilities are to.
• Review shipment documentation for completeness and accuracy before shipment dispatch. Correct documentation within company systems or communicate corrections or required modifications to shippers.
• Ensure required approvals from the different business functions are obtained before shipments occur.
• Ensure parcels are appropriately packaged and labeled, and that any permits or other required or recommended shipping documentation accompanies shipments.
• Provide the green light for shipments to proceed after determining that documentation is complete and required approvals have been met in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
• Support shippers by advising of shipping requirements and recommendations, and by preparing and providing shipment documentation as needed.
• Assist shippers in understanding shipping processes and with the use of tools that are required for movements of biological material.
• Maintain various logs and records as required.
• Collaborate closely with International Trade and Regulatory teams.
• Ensure that traceability and other movement requirements are met as outlined in the global procedures for the movement of biological material.

Education Requirement(s):
• A four-year degree or equivalent experience being no less than 5 years of experience.

It would be an asset to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences with knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology or
• Bachelor’s degree in international affairs with knowledge of customs regulations

Skill & Competency Requirements:

The position requires:
• Good communication skills, patience, diplomacy, team spirit, persistence to deal effectively with diversity and an intercultural team, and practical problem-solving skills
• Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail in documentation and process adherence
• Ability to perform under the stress and time pressures associated with a heavy workload


It would be an asset to have:
• Working experience in movement of biological material, traceability requirements and their regulations
• Auditing skills
• Knowledge of plant pests and pathogens
• Knowledge of international trade and customs-related activities

Travel between local area sites (in Morrisville and RTP) may be required for meetings or other activities from time to time.
