Building Laborer

Summary Description of Position

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with meeting room setups/resets, assisting with various tasks related to the care and maintenance of Federation buildings and grounds, and assisting with building tenants’ minor handyman needs.

 

Principal Duties

  • Assist with room set-ups and take-downs for meetings including moving furniture, cleaning rooms after meetings, and removing trash.
  • Assist in making routine inspections to determine maintenance needs and perform tasks including, but not limited to, scrubbing, sweeping, dusting, polishing windows, walls, furniture, sidewalks and some metal surfaces, emptying recycling receptacles, and removing debris from planters.
  • Assist with office and office furniture moves and with assembling and disassembling workstations.
  • Perform minor handyman tasks such as, but not limited to, removal/installation of keyboard trays, removal/installation of picture frames/bulletin boards, anchoring shelving to walls, and assembling chairs and shelving.
  • At the direction of the Operations Manager and the Building Engineer, perform minor carpentry work, plumbing-related tasks and other minor trade-related functions.
  • Assist with elevator access control.
  • May assist with operation of folding machine and cutting machine.
  • May assist in delivering incoming packages or supply deliveries.
  • On call 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
  • May work split-shift hours and Sundays.

Education & Experience Required For Position

  • Education and experience equivalent to a high school education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in maintenance work.
  • Broad knowledge of methods, tools and equipment utilized in building maintenance trades.
  • Ability to use and care for tools and equipment; lifting of boxes weighing approximately 50 pounds (physical examination may be required);
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Appropriate education and related experience strongly desired.
