Database Specialist for Business Intelligence Applications

This resource will work as part of a team that designs, builds and supports business intelligence applications for NPPC. This resource will be responsible for designing and developing database models and creating data processing packages for business intelligence applications. These applications gather data from external data sources, prepare and harmonize the data for storage and present visualizations, reporting and analytics for Purina business teams.

Primary Responsibilities
• Design and develop database models to support reporting and analytics systems.
***Microsoft BI Stack (including SSAS) needed!!
• Develop automated deployment scripts to update development, testing and production environments for databases and applications. Visual Studio Team Services, PowerShell and other scripting tools will be used.
• Create automated processes for collecting and processing data for the reporting and analytics system used by Purina business teams using SSIS and other data ETL tools.
• Ensure database servers and instances are stable and performant by monitoring server health, implementing backup and recovery protocols, and troubleshooting errors and performance issues. Both local database instances and Azure instances to be supported.
• Collaboration with other team members with code walkthroughs and peer reviewed code.
• Ensure that all applications and databases follow Nestle database standards and are compliant to established guidelines.

Technical Skills Required and Preferred
• Strong experience with the Microsoft business intelligence stack is required. (SQL Server, Analysis Server, Reporting Services, Integration Services)
• This resource will need a solid understanding of business intelligence theory, technologies and design patterns.
• Experience with developer productivity and collaboration tools such as Visual Studio Team Services, Visual Studio.
• Experience with PowerShell scripting
• Experience with query languages such as TSQL, MDX, and DAX.
• Be familiar with compliance and controls for software development and deployment
• An understanding of Lean software development and a strong believe in Agile and DevOps principles
• Familiar with enterprise architectures that include cloud components such as Azure SQL Server databases, Azure data storage components.
• Familiar with end-user reporting and collaboration Tools such as Excel, Power BI, and SharePoint
• (Preferred) Familiar with data visualization techniques that allow insight and exploration.
• (Preferred) Familiar with data connectivity technologies such as APIs and data gateways
• (Preferred) Familiar with other database technologies; Oracle RDMS, Hadoop clusters , or document databases.
