Designer, Outerwear

Adecco Creative is currently supporting Tapestry Brands, in recruiting a freelance Outerwear designer in NYC.  As Freelance Outerwear Designer, you will design the Fall and Holiday collections for Outerwear and Jackets with the associate designer.  The ideal candidate not only has a portfolio representing high quality and detailed design work in outerwear but can also demonstrate superior hand sketching abilities and a knowledge of PLM or a similar program.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Support and participate in design process from initial inspiration to final prototype, including entire product life-cycle including market trend research, inspiration, hand sketching, computer flat sketching, garment specifications, fit, and ensuring that product is designed to meet target customer's fit criteria
  • Create and execute on the vision of the creative director, ensuring that the product is consistent with market trends in casual apparel, while maintaining the brand identity and overall business strategy.
  • Work closely with other members of the apparel design team to ensure a cohesive product line is realized; provide recommendations regarding seasonal themes, edits to line.
  • Provide support for color ways, fabric, and trim direction research and selection
  • Develop detailed tech packs and have strong knowledge of fitting outerwear
  • Sketch garments and looks by hand, rather than exclusively in illustrator
  • Work contingently in PLM throughout the design process
  • Partner with Merchandising to define seasonal framework and ensure that creative ideas and business goals are aligned
  • Partner with the PD team to establish a full working knowledge of raw materials, washes and finishes specific to the casual apparel product; partner with production in achieving desired outcome.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or related field required.
  • 5-7 years related design experience across multiple brands.
  • In depth understanding of the brand and ability to translate it into commercial product
  •  Thorough possess strong knowledge of garment construction and conduct fit sessions to help solve all problems that may occur during proto sample stage; responsible for final approval of sample fit to ensure production-ready market samples
  • Is flexible and can jump in since they will be following up with product they don’t know as well.
  • Someone with a little trim knowledge, there is a lot of follow up on approvals and developments in my day to day time.
  • Experience working in PLM or a similar program
  • Superior hand sketching abilities
