Director of Transportation & Logistics - Meat Trader

Responsible for managing the execution, direction, and coordination of all transportation matters within the organization. In charge of leading, driving, and executing the end-to-end transportation and logistics operations, analysis, evaluation and control of traffic information, including but not limited to: Negotiating with inland carriers, trucking companies and inland brokers in the NAFTA Market related to full truck load refrigerated and frozen freight and operations (Customs Process, Traffic and Tracking of Cargo, scheduling, load pick up, deliveries and verification). Ensuring there is effective communication with the Sales, Back Office, Transport Companies and other areas and other related responsibilities. This position must stay informed on the relevant customs regulations as well as with Transportation rules and regulations, management of perishable /frozen products and management of refrigerated equipment. The incumbent must acquire knowledge and expertise around safety and control on the logistic process and policies, procedures and practices of the company. This position will be based in Miami, Florida and reports to the Head of Sales and Managing Partner.

Freight Negotiation for Inland and Ocean carriers, trucking companies and inland brokers in the NAFTA Market related to full truck load refrigerated and frozen freight and operations. Responsible for:
• Coordinating and negotiating the process, and relationship with inland and ocean freight vendors (develop yearly strategy on contracts and spot negotiation), custom brokers and cold storage facilities.
• Optimize cost of freight per load based on standards and parameters
• Identify logistics and transportation areas for process improvement and cost savings
• Prepare statistical data for contract negotiations and participate in those negotiations
• Maintain cost analysis reports.
• Drive effective processes for load pick up and verification, tracking, measurement, reporting, and analysis of all traffic.
• Estimate, solicit and coordinate adequate levels of transport reserves to meet expected volumes.
• Devise and lead the creation of policies or procedures for all logistics activities

Talent Management and Optimization of team and resources. Responsible for:
• Hire, develop, and retain talent, in his/her organization -
Cross-train team for back up and succession planning
• Assess team performance, provide oversight and coaching.
• Optimize talent, structure and resources to evolve with company’s growth and strategy. Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
• Work with direct reports to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance theprofessional development of staff

Effectively coordinate and communicate with sales, back office, broker and logistic companies. Coordinate with direct reports responsible for Mexico, US and Latin America, and other new locations. Responsible for:
• Coordinate effective update of the “status screen” for on-time pickups, load information for document generation, provide all details of shipment on border/port.
• Ensure and oversee the status update for ocean shipments, border arrival of U.S. Trucks, Mexican truck pick-ups, report loads information for document generation and provide all details of shipment CO) • Ensure effective communication of load variations, errors, and changes on dates, shipments, etc.
• Communicate with internal and external clients, from time to time, to define or clarify requirements, shipment priorities, and identify improvement areas to the process and service.

Implement, lead and drive key logistics metrics and KPIs. Responsible for:
• Implement, enhance, monitor and ensure daily reporting of operations and track key performance indicators on dashboards, ledgers and transportation bid boards.
• Ensure availability of inland and ocean transportation and measure reliability of transportation companies and brokers.
• Ensure proper processes to track and report product flow from origin to final delivery.
• Participate in carrier management processes, such as selection, qualification, relationship and/or performance evaluation.
• Stay up to date in logistics technology and systems, market and industry trends, regulations and advancements that may impact or benefit the company.

Other. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Ensure company’s policies and procedures are complied with, information and reports are kept up to date including price lists and timely communicate to sales team.
• Monitor, track, control and report on Key Performance Indicators or other control points. Timely inform of changes or risks. Properly manage inventories in U.S Warehouses and international locations. Actively participate and engage in other company activities requested by leader, support other management activities and coordination, staff meetings, promotion activities, among others. Support company with special projects and workflow process improvements. Lead by and demonstrate company values. Actively participate as a member of the Leadership Team

Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, International trade, Export/Import or related fields.
• 7+ years of prior experience working and/or negotiating with inland and or carriers, trucking companies and inland brokers in the NAFTA Market is required. Full truck load refrigerated, and frozen freight experience is required. Ocean freight experience is a plus. • Experienced in implementing and managing transportation bid board and/or supply systems and dashboards. • Proven people leadership skills. Minimum of 7-10+years of supervisory experience. • Must possess general knowledge of Custom broker process • Commercial acumen; with a proactive and creative approach to looking after the needs and concerns of customers is a plus. • Computer literate including Microsoft Office and Excel. Knowledge in SAP Business One experience is a plus.
• Experience in defining and improving processes and team structure from ground up is a plus.
• Bilingual. Fluency in Spanish and English, written and verbal skills. • Flexibility in time and schedule.
• Travel required 30-40% approx. • Demonstrated ability and experience to working in a dynamic environment, under pressure and handling multiple priorities.
