Editorial Project and Production Manager - Must Have K-12 Educational Publishing Experience

Adecco Creative is assisting our client, a well-known children’s educational publisher, in their search for an Editorial Project and Production Manager. This is a full time freelance role, working 35-40 hours per week onsite in the client’s downtown Manhattan offices, and expected to last on a long term / ongoing basis.

Qualified candidates MUST have previous experience with K-12 educational publishing. Applicants without K-12 will not be considered.

The most important traits for this position will be project management and communication skills, with the ability to track numerous inter-dependent components at various stages of development, across internal and external teams.


  • Track project activities against objectives and adjust as necessary (identify and monitor all deliverables)
  • Maintain continual communication with other departments on project progress, status, and relevant issues
  • Troubleshoot or escalate queries/issues throughout the product development process in order to keep projects on schedule and on budget
  • Create and maintain project schedules as assigned, and lead multi-department status meetings
  • Assign work to composition and/or multi-service vendors and freelancers and manage vendor relationships
  • Traffic files/proofs between departments and outside vendors ensuring approvals and sign-offs on all major deliverables
  • Following finance/accounting processes for contracts and invoice processing
  • Liaison between product development teams and manufacturing/operations/digital engineers
  • Maintain final file archives of completed products
  • Assure optimal quality, schedule, and budget throughout process
  • Projects include both print and digital components


  • Thorough understanding of the principles of print and digital production
  • 3+ years relevant work experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing the needs of multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Mac OS, Adobe InDesign CC, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and the Microsoft Office suite of apps.
  • Proven ability to diplomatically implement workflow standards and achieve buy-in from all stakeholders
  • Familiarity with WoodWing Enterprise or K4 publishing systems a plus
  • Ability to work well under pressure and problem-solve issues
