Job Description

Summary of Position:
The Ethanol Account Manager is responsible for developing the ethanol business. Responsibilities include managing existing accounts, promotion and sales of chemical solutions to new and existing customers, and delivering outstanding customer service.
This position requires a high emphasis on OSHA’s required safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities

Utilize an effective time management system to fit the home/business office & sales field demands
Schedule appointments, meet with existing customers to review product needs and to determine available opportunities
Prepare sales action plans and strategies
Ensure follow-up after initial customer contact with complete profile of customer information, calls-to-action, sources, dates, etc.
Continuously improve technical/product knowledge on new products, procedures, services and tools by attending departmental and training meetings
Stay active and involved in best industry practices and evolving technology as opportunities develop, i.e., trade shows, workshops, manufacturing partner product development, internal collaboration, teamwork and web research
Develop a good understanding of the trade area within 250 miles of residence and manage prospects effectively
Utilize a proactive “Prospect List” as a tool in the sales growth of the trade area and share with the management team as part of ongoing business reviews.
Opportunities are not limited to within 250 miles of residence, but should be fully explored as the primary resource
Achieve minimum sales and profit goals established at DOH within flexible expectations depending on experience in the industry.
Within 24 months - Minimum sales goals would be sufficient to cover personal salary, benefit, and G&A costs plus an additional 25% contribution.
More than 24 months – Annual sales and profit growth is expected and will be part of individual business reviews.
At all times be capable of preparing professional quotes with ROI support for equipment investment and presenting same to management, prospects and customers, submit copies to “Service Reports” through Outlook.
Maintain accounts effectively providing written Service Reports and any necessary documentation to promote effective communication.
Minimize customer attrition, submit report identifying causes for any loss of business and any future follow up, and submit copies to “Service Reports” through Outlook.
Prepare service reports and business reviews for customer as appropriate, submit copies to “Service Reports” through Outlook.
Provide a weekly schedule to the office prior to 10:00 AM each Monday, submit to “Schedule” through Outlook.
Provide an expense report each month, completed properly with receipts, and submit an electronic copy to the accounts payable personnel by the 10th of the following month. Send the hardcopy with receipts directly to accounts payables personnel, as directed.
Provide technical material and/or present same at semi-annual sales meetings as requested.
Maintain sufficient customer files and or records as necessary in an organized and efficient manner.
Maintaining professionalism, diplomacy, sensitivity, and tact to portray the company in a positive manner.
Conduct plant surveys, bench testing, and analytical required to effectively evaluate business potential and prepare professional quotes.
Following process for all new customers, submitting required administration prior to the first product or services required.
Be prepared to travel as required to develop a productive trade area and achieve established sales goals.

Education/Qualifications & Experience

A Bachelor of Science in Chemistry preferred
Experience in the ethanol industry
Self-starter, sales driven and goal oriented


Knowledge and Skills

Effective time management, organization and multi-tasking skills with the ability to work well under pressure
Ability to manage multiple projects
Exceptional people skills to interact effectively with customers and team at all levels
Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to lead a discussion within any setting
Demonstrate proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel and Outlook




Physical Abilities

Ability to drive a company vehicle safely over long distances using hands-free mobile telecommunications equipment.
Endurance required to inspect all equipment serviced in a safe and effective manner.

Safely using and climbing portable ladders
Ability to climb vertical fixed ladders
Ability to ascend and descend stairs and uneven surfaces.
Confined space training and entry
Participate with on-site safety training:

Must be able to read and understand safety data sheets and types of chemical labeling
Must be able to communicate chemical hazards to client (flammability, corrosivity, toxicity, and reactivity)
Use PPE as needed or required
Must be able to perform basic laboratory safety techniques (e.g., label all containers, set-up testing area properly to avoid accidents, do not eat/drink/smoke when using chemicals)
