Great Lakes Cheese is currently seeking Forklift operators to work at their Hiram, Ohio plant.  The Forklift Operator is responsible for the accurate receiving, storing, and shipping of products to meet company standards of safety, productivity, and quality. This includes the operation of basic forklifts (stand up reach truck) in the handling of products. Must be available to work scheduled hours to meet customer needs.


The position schedule is training on day shift (7am - 3pm) and moving to a weekend schedule.  Two 12 hour shifts over the weekend, and two 8 hour shifts during the week.  An example would be Saturday and Sunday 7am - 7pm and Monday and Tuesday 3pm - 11pm.  There are a variety of schedules however you will only have one set schedule.


Please note this position is working in conditions around 45 degrees. 


Pay starts at $13.50 and once hired it increased to around $20!



  1. Load and unload freight in an efficient and safe manner, recording all necessary paperwork.
  2. Keep all palletizer out-feed conveyors clear of product in a timely manner to prevent any stoppage in converting.
  3. Transport product to storage areas using proper equipment and efficiently stack and store product.
  4. Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing and other miscellaneous tasks as needed.
  5. Operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently while meeting productivity and quality expectations.
  6. Check product for accuracy in inventory, damage and infestation and complete paperwork.
  7. Assist in maintaining the security of the facility.
  8. Conduct operations and model behavior that promotes a safe environment. This would include looking in the direction of travel, wearing a seat belt, driving at an appropriate speed, and appropriate use of the horn as examples.
  9. Sweep and clean area, including trailers, as needed.
  10. Abide by all company rules and policies in regards to conduct and safety.
  11. Must have the ability to turn head to look in the direction of travel. Must have the ability to look up. Must have the ability to wear the seat belt during operation per OSHA regulation.
  12. Demonstrate a 3 point stance mount and dismount at all times when getting on and off the forklift.
  13. Utilize RF scanners and the Warehouse Management System.

Forklift Operator skills

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Valid drivers license
  • 2+ years’ experience operating powered forklifts
  • Knowledge of various material-handling equipment an asset
  • Proficient in mathematics
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations
  • Possess a high regard for safety in the workplace
  • Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted
