POSITION:   French Language Data Associate

LOCATION: Cambridge, MA

HOURS:  40 hours per week

DURATION: 6 months (contract)

 

Responsibilities, Qualifications, & Details:

The Spanish Language Data Associate role focuses on language data, primarily in the areas of grammar writing, text annotation, and general localization deliverables.
 

The Language Data Associate must be capable of:

 

  • Building a thorough understanding of data labeling conventions and provide support to global sites
  • Localizing established guidelines from English into French
  • Improving grammars and related artifacts by expanding coverage, and identifying and eliminating bugs
  • Delivering high quality data output under aggressive deadlines
  • Working autonomously with minimal direction
  • Handling unique data analysis requests from a range of data customers
  • Contributing to process improvements to reduce handling time and improve data output
  • Diving deep into issues and implement solutions independently
  • Providing quality expertise to other team members and coaching improvements
  • In addition, the French Language Data Associate will need to quickly understand changes in response to customers’ requests and change workflows accordingly

 

Data Collection Researcher Work & Deliverables:

 

  • Analyzing complex language data sets (a data set of sentence constructions or colloquial phrases)
  • Consistently handling new or different types of language data and devising guidelines for how individual or team will process it
  • Localization of ambiguous English text into native language
  • Identifying bugs in data or workflows, contributing to general process improvement
  • Capable of self-training

 

Day-to-Day:
On any given work day, you may be…

 

  • Attending a working session with your team to deliberate on some tricky issues and questions with a Language Engineer
  • Attending a training or serving as a mentor through someone else’s training;
    And last but not least, the majority of your day would be spent completing your assigned tasks independently which could span multiple workflows or work types
  • *Your day would include a mix of independently completing language data analysis, evaluation, manipulation or mark-up tasks, and working with your team to resolve issues

 

The French Language Data Associate must have a passion for data, efficiency, and accuracy as well as:

  • Show proactive efforts in addressing issues and problems
  • Excellent communication, strong organizational skills and very detailed-oriented
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
  • Willingness to support several projects at one time, and to accept re-prioritization as necessary
  • Ability to keep up with changing project conventions and priorities
    required skills

 

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Linguistics/Computational Linguistics, or equivalent practical experience in data mark-up
  • Native level fluency in French, both written and verbal
  • Business level fluency in English
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Excel
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and a solution-oriented attitude
    preferred skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Experience working with grammars and other forms of NLP technology
  • Independent, proactive, and self-motivated with record in timely delivery of requests
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and learn in-house user-interface tools
  • Experience with command line tools
