Instructional Designer

Job Title: Media Specialist

Estimated Length: 1 year with the opportunity to extend to two years based on performance

Pay: $32/hr. - $41/hr.

Location: San Jose, CA

As an Media Specialist for the “World’s Largest Search Engine”, you will design and develop learning solutions across multiple modalities that align with the needs and culture of the merchants. You will partner with a wide range of stakeholders, including program managers, product specialists, and merchants to design and develop engaging and innovative training content.

In this role, you contribute to all aspects of training for an operations audience, including the analysis, design, development, and delivery of training. You will work with a variety of cross-functional stakeholders to provide training support for major process and product launches while ensuring all content meets the team’s highest standards. You’re passionate about creating the best learner experience possible through the design, development and implementation of effective training content. You’re sensitive and proactively address the needs of merchants in your instructional design of the training content. When carrying out the responsibilities of the role, you will inspire new and existing merchants to draw from their training, critical thinking skills and Help Center resources.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Communications or Instructional Design, or 3 years equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years’ experience designing, developing and implementing online training and e-learning programs, preferably in a corporate setting or in a retail or operations context
  • 1-2 years in customer support or operations
  • Experience building or managing complex training programs (blending online and in-person content).
  • Familiarity with change management principles and concepts
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to successfully navigate and influence strong personalities within a complex system of merchants and operational teams
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and change
  • Experience designing, developing and implementing a training curriculum using various formats including videos, job aids, facilitator guides and e-learning modules
  • Experience loading and managing courseware in a Learning Management System, and using e-learning authoring tools (Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, etc.)
  • Graphic design and illustration experience a huge plus

Responsibilities:

  • Document and disseminate standard operating procedures through the creation of training content, including: instructional videos, e-learning courses, job aids, help center articles and other instructional aids
  • Design, develop and implement training programs that will shorten ramp time, and improve quality
  • Build self-check quizzes and related formative and summative exams
  • Perform ongoing analysis of in-market performance and new product launches to ensure existing content remains fresh, relevant and at the front of the field
  • Understand and empathize with merchant motivations and expectations, allowing robust development of external and internal messaging
  • Maintain business acumen and learning & development industry knowledge including: mobile learning, innovative learning solutions and platforms, and effective design and evaluation principles
