POSITION: Labor Relations Specialist
LOCATION: Niles, OH (Zip 44446)
HOURS: 8AM - 5PM
DURATION: 12+ Months
PAY: $40.50 - $45.50/hr W2

**Must be eligible to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship / no corp to corp or 3rd party contracting arrangement / Adecco W2 only.**

Job Description:
Reporting to the Labor Relations Manager, this position provides oversight and ensures compliance as it relates to day-to-day administration of the collective bargaining agreements with Union-represented employees. The Labor Relations Specialist will interpret and administer labor agreements covering approximately 500 represented employees. The Labor Relations specialist represents the company in addressing, investigating and resolving labor issues between management and its labor force, ensuring consistent application of contracts, local agreements, laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and disciplinary guidelines. Duties will include initial investigation and evaluation of union grievances, administering the hourly employee discipline process, administering the hourly employee job-bidding process, and administering the day-to-day issues and questions that arise between the Company and its hourly represented employees. Major areas of focus include, but are not limited to: Supporting key Human Resources related initiatives impacting the entire plant including deploying sound employee relations practices across the operation. This includes employment and labor law, industrial relations, community partnerships, compliance line, worker’s compensation, diversity/EEO, union strategy, hourly employment practices and policy.

Significant accountabilities include but are not limited to:


Work closely with HR and Labor Relations in representing the Company to ensure consistency in process, policy and procedure application of the labor agreements as well as local agreements and practices
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives and employees
If necessary, assists in development, implementation and revision of work rules and disciplinary procedures governing bargaining unit employees
Coordinate employee communications to keep employees informed regarding changes in work rules and policies
Share appropriate learning of employee and labor relations processes within the team to improve the overall knowledge
Performs administrative tasks relevant to documenting employee performance, including, but not limited to, documenting and tracking progress
Assist with composing disciplinary/adverse actions and performance-based action letters, initial grievance responses, and local agreements
Researches, gathers data and responds to union grievances at Step; 1. Meets with Company officials to determine validity of grievances and documents discussions for review
Attends Step 2 hearings and takes notes
Assists in preparation for arbitration hearings
Assists the Labor Relations Manager with the recruiting and selection process of hourly bargaining unit positions, administers pre-employment testing



Basic Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in business discipline, i.e. human resources, labor relations, etc., with 3-5 years of HR experience in an industrial environment with a represented workforce. Advanced degree is a plus
Demonstrated working knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to, EEO, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, Title VII and FMLA
Excellent written and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and work well with a team
Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes
Ability to be flexible, work with interruptions and shift priorities as required, while still achieving a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Proven time management and organizational skills to include self-management
Able to maintain a positive attitude while performing within stressful situations and handling complex issues
Proven ability to recruit employees
Must possess working knowledge of a wide range of labor-management relations and/or employee relations issues that include discipline, appeals, grievances, performance based actions, unfair labor practice charges, negotiation/negotiability appeal principles and strategies
Ability to translate legal/labor law, contract, policies in order to coach managers in resolving day-to-day issues
Solid consultative skills, relationship building, problem solving, and coaching
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Detail-oriented with very strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
Above average computer and systems knowledge (HRIS, MS Office and Outlook. SAP and Kronos and Brass Ring experience preferred)


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with answering grievances
Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in contract language/negotiations, labor arbitration and employment/labor law
Approachable, easy to talk to, puts others at ease
Effective communicator in every setting
Able to forge strong, trusting collaborative relationships
Experience working in organizations of 500 or more desired
PHR/SPHR certification is desirable
