A Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory Assistant I role in Durham, NC is now available through Adecco Medical and Science. In this role, we are seeking an Assistant Scientist to perform research activities and other tasks as necessary in a typical laboratory environment, including documenting observations and measurements and reporting results, conclusions and next steps. He or she may be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining equipment. This is an entry level, minimum 6-month contract role starting immediately.

The responsibilities of the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory Technician I include:

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform research activities and other tasks as necessary in a typical laboratory environment, including documenting observations and measurements and reporting results, conclusions and next steps.
He or she may be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining equipment.
Works without immediate supervision and understands plant biology and development well enough to make inferences and draw conclusions about the experiments he or she is performing, including potentially changing the experiment or approach or technique mid-stream.

Qualifications (Education, Certifications and/or Experience)

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Plant Biology, Horticulture or related field.
Minimum of 1-3 years’ of experience in the field or in a related area.
Interest in plant biology or agricultural research - this interest is the priority in hiring.
Strong background in Plant Biology, agriculture, and/or tissue culture
Wants to work on basic biology and applied biology research projects for the improvement of agriculture and/or for the pursuit of knowledge in basic biology
Skills and experience in plant tissue dissection, confocal microscopy, and plant tissue culture
high level of comfort with data entry, processing, analysis, and presentation, including producing charts and tables for communicating results.
Works without immediate supervision and is willing to work alone and make decisions on how to best execute experiments.
Willing to handle both project management tasks as well as laboratory/greenhouse scientific activities
Experience independently planning and executing research projects in plant science, including presenting results and planning next steps.
