Laboratory Specimen Processor

A Laboratory Specimen Processor job in Rancho Bernardo, CA is available through Adecco Medical & Science. The Laboratory Specimen Processor is responsible for the accessioning process in the laboratory which includes specimen receiving, sorting, specimen bag opening, lab support, test data entry, batching and racking. This is a multi-faceted position and requires great flexibility, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

Responsibilities:

Specimen receiving, sorting and specimen bag opening
Initial data entry of tests ordered into Intellium Laboratory Information System (ILIS) as requested by practices/accounts.
Ensure correct labels are affixed to requisitions, demographic cover sheet and test tubes (when applicable) and specimen container.
Validate requisitions against specimens prior to scanning and entering practice information and tests to ensure that the ID numbers and names match.
Confirm that all practice and in-house accession numbers and specimen IDs are validated.
Batch and rack specimens in preparation for testing. Ensure that all specimens are moved throughout laboratory in a safe, efficient manner.
Responsible for validating requisitions against specimens prior to scanning and entering practice information and tests.
Responsible for effective communication for product movement throughout the laboratory.
Must be knowledgeable and aware of cross-contamination potentials and bring occurrences to Supervisor’s attention immediately for correction.
Responsible for accurately distinguishing source types (oral swabs or saliva) in specimens.
Needs to be adaptable in transitioning with ease between all appropriate tasks
Ensure all lab areas are fully stocked with the proper supplies, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Maintain a clean and organized work cell at all times.
Clean and maintain the laboratory and all equipment.
Complete daily housekeeping per company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Manage the waste produced by the accessioning processes as well as keep the lab free of debris and trash at all times.
Strong understanding of HIPAA laws and ability to keep all information confidential.
Clear understanding of OSHA regulations.
Responsible for being aware of safety issues and work in a safe manner at all times.
Perform all responsibilities in accordance with company policies, SOPs, regulatory standards and regulations and accrediting agencies, including the proper wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Learn to flag billing related issues

Data Entry

Enter patient information on requisition forms and additional paperwork received from practices.
Effectively process patient information data, including medical information, with outstanding accuracy.
Process practice codes, specimen IDs and patient identification information properly.
Responsible for validating practice codes, specimen IDs and patient identification information on requisition forms and additional paperwork against Intellium Laboratories Information System (ILIS).
Ensure accuracy of initial data entries.
Must be comfortable in entering or auditing information from various types of forms and demographics.
Must be aware of discrepancies and bring occurrences to Laboratory Specimen Processor Lead’s attention immediately for correction and/or verification.





QUALIFICATIONS:


High school diploma or GED minimum requirement.
Associates degree highly preferred.
Previous data entry, medical transcribing experience highly preferred. Previous experience in a laboratory highly desirable.
Previous experience working in a fast-paced production environment where the work is repetitive is highly desirable.
