Laboratory Support II

The Laboratory Support II position is responsible for intermediate level processing of biospecimens, including lymphocyte separation and cryopreservation methods, as well as performing some functions related to laboratory operations and facility maintenance. In addition, the position supports all specimen related inventory activities. The Sr. Laboratory Operations manager will provide overall training and supervision. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

•    Use barcode scanners and manual inventory processes to receipt specimen kits into laboratory applications
•    Prepare specimens from multiple studies for long-term storage
•    Prepare, test, and record results of quality control (QC) material as appropriate for bench processes.  
•    Manage Excel files for upload into a specimen database
•    Create aliquots of specimens per material type (serum, plasma, cells, urine) and study protocols
•    Use specialized laboratory equipment to separate and store biological and environmental specimens
•    Use label-creation software to create barcoded labels 
•    Prepare batches of samples for external laboratory testing. Insert QC samples and follow batching and re-labeling instructions closely. 
•    Pack shipments of samples for external laboratories, according to IATA regulations. This task requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs. 
•    Maintain equipment and supply inventories on a routine basis
•    Perform cell separation and cryopreservation methods 
•    Perform routine supply inventory and order new supplies. Prepare all paperwork to assist paying invoices and completing expenditure authorizations (EAs)
•    Answer lab alarms 24/7 on a rotating schedule; serve as backup on-call person for emergencies, power outages, and unanticipated freezer failure situations
•    Assist in all monthly maintenance tasks including generator and electrical panel automatic transfer switch testing
•    Maintain and test egress lighting, task lights, eyewash, electrical testing, chemical inventory, first aid kit inventory, clean and maintain freezers. Some tasks require climbing indoor stepladders and performing tasks at a height of 8-10 ft.
•    Work closely with laboratory operations manager and database technical specialists to perform tasks across projects to meet client and project deadlines
