Mechanical Technician

The Mechanical Technician supports the Engineering & Quality functions for the Technical Team working closely with all department team members and reporting directly to the Director of Quality & Engineering.
The qualified candidate is a self-starter who performs and supports all tasks related to supplier product problems, internal and external corrective action investigations and improvement planning. The MT writes test plans and protocols, performs tests, collects data and reports results of investigative activity. This Technician supports the mechanical inspection function as needed and requested by performing First Article & Production Inspection tasks per SRI’s SOP’s. Involvement includes Production Part Approval Process activity and Continual Improvement programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Performs incoming piece part inspection: First Article Submissions and production when requested
Maintains compliance to the company ISO9001 Quality & Environmental Management Systems
Participates as a co-leader in the discrepant material reporting system related to nonconforming material while also co-leading corrective and preventive actions for continual improvement
Creates, organizes and compiles quality and rework instructions & PPAP documentation
Supports special projects, studies, tests and experiments requested by department management

Minimum Qualifications

AAS is preferred. A high school diploma at a minimum with demonstrated technical background
(5) years minimum hands-on experience in a test, development or prototype lab in a production manufacturing facility
Experience with working knowledge of various mechanical inspection metrology
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing provides an advantage
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, product specifications and industry standards is mandatory
Proficiency using office computer software; word processing, spreadsheets, etc
The qualified and preferred candidate possesses a deep understanding of various manufacturing and component production processes, (machine, cast, injection molded, stamped, forged, welded, painted, plated, heat treated, etc.)

Preferred Qualification

Hands-on machining, metalwork, welding and fabrication experience
ISO9001, TS16969 and/or AS9100 Lean manufacturing environment experience
Process control & development experience in an automotive or aerospace environment
Special process knowledge; SPC, weld, paint, plate, heat treat, casting, molding, etc
