Position Description:

As a Construction Manager for the Outside Plant Team (OSP Team), you will ensure that Fiber has a coordinated deployment operation based out of the Kansas City office.


  • Manage daily field construction work activity of contractors and ensures quality work activity in their assigned geographic area
  • Manage third party construction vendors
  • Participate in project meetings and effectively support the overall project effort
  • Help manage and meet construction schedules, intervals and due dates
  • Help ensures that projects are built according to approved plans and specifications
  • Maintains and drives the construction schedule in conjunction with project team; ensures project milestones and completion dates are met
  • Helps supervise field vendors; ensures their work is planned and performed efficiently
  • Monitor quality assurance, schedule commitments, troubleshooting and final turnover to operations
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, identifying action items and driving to successful completion
  • Knowledge of NESC guidelines and specifications, construction safety standards and OSHA requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, typical, and permits
  • Proficient in using documents, spreadsheets, and other related software 
  • Knowledge or familiarity with Web Applications and/or GIS mapping software
  • 5 years of experience with fiber network deployments, including experience with constructing new outside and inside plant fiber infrastructure
  • 5 years of experience with program management, specific to fiber and the home construction (Inside Plant/Outside Plant)
  • 3 years of experience in vendor management
  • Previous construction crew leadership experience is required with preference given to those with aerial and/or underground OSP/ISP construction backgrounds.
  • Experience in FTTH construction or FTTP construction
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple stakeholders, understand and interpret stakeholder needs and identify solutions
  • Capable of anticipating constructability issues in slightly complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule
  • Proficient in use of basic computing office suite using documents, spreadsheets and calendar functions to communicate with stakeholders and provide and analyze data and reporting
  • Knowledge of construction technology or telecom construction
  • Knowledge of Fiber Optic test equipment
  • 7+ years of construction experience as a Construction Manager or similar direct supervisory role.
  • Experience with - - Outside Plant construction or other telecommunications construction projects is preferred
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes Solid understanding of current construction practices; working knowledge of construction documents, drawings, specifications and project management
  • Ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule and budget
