DEPARTMENT/TEAM DESCRIPTION
Individual will work in the Packaging Development Group.

The group is responsible for all packaging development related issues. Change control management, plant support as well as support of corporate initiatives are its primary function.

POSITION SUMMARY The individual is responsible for issues associated with the packaging of solid, liquid, cream and ointment OTC and nutritional products manufactured at the Myerstown, PA location.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, package development, design and testing; identifying meaningful component specifications; qualifying components and packaging operations; troubleshooting commercial packaging operations; and implementation of quality and cost improvement programs. Also, work within established guidelines to implement new packaging projects that have been initiated by the Marketing/I&D/Product Supply Departments in Morristown.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
*Facilitate the implementation of new package designs for product launches by ensuring the compatibility of package designs with existing packaging line equipment and technology.

*Collaborate with Quality Assurance in investigating and approving packaging material specifications to ensure compliance with division and regulatory (Good Manufacturing Practices - cGMPs) requirements.

*Reduce packaging waste and increase line efficiencies by identifying potential cost savings opportunities.

*Plan actions and ensure task completion.

*Assist factory teams in identifying root causes of packaging problems and subsequent solutions.

*Recommend new technology or other improvements to increase the efficiencies of the packaging line operations.

*Write and execute Packaging Qualification Protocols and Summary Reports. Conduct Packaging Studies and component qualifications.

*Serve as a technical contributor and represent Myerstown packaging function on core implementation teams such as E-commerce and product transfer teams.

*Develop and maintain packaging documentation: Specification templates, Packaging Study documentation, change control documents, and packaging component qualifications.

*Assure that new packaging configurations conform to appropriate regulatory/FDA packaging requirements.

*Works with QA to assure that suppliers provide packaging components that consistently meet our requirements.

REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirement(s): R
*Requires a BS in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering or related technology or science degree and 4 years experience in design and implementation of packaging systems for new and existing products; Or Masters in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering or related technology or science degree and 2 years of experience as described above required.

Skill & Competency Requirements:
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of computer applications.

*Basic knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, product stability and drafting as they pertain to packaging industry technology expected.

*Ability to work independently.

Client Preferences:
*Experience in GMP regulated, medical device or food industry strongly preferred.

*Knowledge of GMPs as they relate to the packaging and holding of food or pharmaceutical products preferred.

Travel Requirements:
*Willing to travel approximately 10% of the time, primarily to Divisional Headquarters (New Jersey)
