The Law Department has an opening for a paralegal to provide support to the attorneys in the Law Department’s Public Fixed Income and Quantitative Equity section.  This unit of the Law Department provides legal support and services. Fixed Income and Quantitative Management Associates LLC (QMA). Provides investment advisory services to institutional investors, mutual funds, commingled trusts, insurance company separate accounts, collateralized debt obligations and hedge funds.  QMA provides investment advisory services to institutional investors, mutual funds, commingled trusts, insurance company separate accounts and managed accounts. The paralegal will provide support which will include responsibility for a number of the clients subsidiaries, affiliates and other investment vehicles, both domestic and international.


The duties of this position will include both long-term established tasks as well as short-term projects that arise from diverse requests for legal advice.  The candidate must be able to learn the client’s business, become familiar with securities laws, trading of securities and investment fund structures and their legal requirements, and otherwise become an integral part of the legal team supporting active public fixed income and quantitative equity investment management firms.


The successful candidate will assist in drafting provisions of contracts, client communications and other documents; review relevant laws, regulations and documentation; and review of offering memoranda for securities offerings.  While duties of this position will vary according to need, general responsibilities may include:


  1. Drafting and review of commingled trust fund agreements;
  2. Review of offering documents for securities;
  3. Review of bank loan documentation;
  4. Review of trading documentation, corporate actions and class actions;
  5. Handling of information requests and other routine legal matters (i.e., conflict inquiries; records hold orders, document productions);
  6. Data entry and maintenance of various databases;
  7. Legal research and writing; and
  8. Back-up support to other paralegals.


Job Requirements:


  • Experience in using Lexis, Westlaw and the Internet to perform legal research
  • The expertise, when presented with a legal issue, to independently and thoroughly research the issue, and analyze, organize and summarize the data into a well-written legal memorandum
  • Good analytical and writing skills are mandatory!
  • Candidate should be able to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively with supervisor, department attorneys, investment professionals and outside counsel


  • A college degree
  • Paralegal certificate
  • 3 or more years of experience as a corporate paralegal are strongly preferred
