Responsibilities for Payment Processing Specialist jobs include but are not limited to:

  • Accurately and efficiently processes manual payments received in office as well as payments received through Lock box, ACH, MoneyGram and pay-by-phone/pay-by-web.
  • Assists Account Specialists and Customer Service Representatives with payment allocation inquiries.
  • Identifies and corrects problems with payment applications and communicates corrections with customers and Customer Service Representatives.
  • Identifies and communicates solutions directly to customers when their payment allocation requests are not clear.
  • Balances payments posted daily and applies corrections as needed.
  • Reconciles all NSF and return payments and assists with recovery of returned items.
  • Sets up and makes changes to ACH accounts.
  • Completes payment and disbursement maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Meets or exceeds payment processing productivity goals in support of service level standards.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with departmental and company policies and procedures.


Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for Payment Processing Specialist jobs:

  • Minimum of 10 years work experience processing real estate loan payments, handling cash and balancing transactions. Work experience must be in financial services, loan servicing, banking or real estate industries.
  • Work experience requiring attention to detail, accuracy and strong organization skills.
  • Advanced business math skills with ability to calculate interest (including default interest and split interest), calculate late charges and understand amortization schedules.
  • Strong data entry skills with ability to prioritize and multi task.
  • Ability to meet established production goals and deadlines.
  • Decision making and problem solving ability.
  • Ability to provide a high level of service to both internal and external clients.
  • Ability to understand payment posting, contract, and real estate terminology.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to handle sensitive client information in a confidential manner.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in schedules, routines and work procedures.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 10 years of bookkeeping experience
