Payroll accountant

Specific Description of Responsibilities:

Responsible for the preparation and processing of weekly payroll for approximately 200 employees

Review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets; track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions

Responsible for the coordination efforts between payroll, human resources, and accounting departments to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data including preparation and distribution of detailed reports such as overtime, leave balances, head count, and retirement contribution reports.

Responsible for setting up each employee, validate each employee's charges, and adherence to FLSA

Monitor submissions of approved timesheets, ensure valid data transfers to/from payroll records

Establish and maintain employee records; ensure that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis; review changes for proper authorization and adherence to APA policy including compliance with federal/state/local regulations

Responsible for the calculation and submission of trust fund reports(monthly).

Responsible for setting up and maintaining union rates and fringes in system

Responsible for assisting with annual audits from various unions

Responsible for year-end reporting, including distribution of W2s

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of Associate Degree in Business Administration/Finance is required, or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field is preferred

Minimum of 3-5 plus years in a Payroll Department performing ALL payroll functions

Experience with a Construction Company (with payroll of 150+ employees) is preferred

Experience in certified payroll is preferred

Experience with Timberline Accounting software is preferred

Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system

Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines

Excellent skills using MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and the Internet

Excellent problem solving skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy

Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure
