Permit Specialist

Position Summary:
The Permit Specialist is responsible to route, order permits and set up pilot cars when required for oversize/overweight truck loads. The Permit Specialist will help develop and maintain new programs within the department. The Permit Specialist will support the Mission, Vision and Value statements of the organization providing a high standard of ethics and integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide permits for the company drivers, owner operator drivers and independent drivers according to the information provided by the driver manager.
• Verify that information from Driver Manager is correct including but not limited to overall dimensions.
• Select the most logical and direct route from pick up to delivery. • Select routes for super-loads including steerables, multi load (custom trailers). o Manage the employee escorts for the steerable and multi axle.
• Verify that all permits are correct prior to forwarding to driver managers. • Order all permits direct from the states. Only use another permit service if absolutely necessary. • Log permit costs in the Excel spreadsheet once the order is complete.
• Provide support to the Driver Managers as issues/concerns arise.
• Determine where pilot cars are required and report the information back to the Driver Manager. • Hire qualified pilot cars upon Driver Managers request.
• Send Driver Managers Escort itinerary on every escorted load.
• Order route surveys for states that require them and make sure the Driver Manager gets a copy of the survey for the driver.
• Verify that the load is quoted with the proper pilot cars by looking in TMW under the Accessorial. If an order is missing an accessorial the Permit Specialist must contact the account manager and driver manager to help resolve the issue.
• Log pilot car charges in the excel spreadsheet once the order is complete.
• License new trucks, renew IRP.
• Misc. duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, and individual should demonstrate the following qualifications:
• One to three years of experience in working in permitting and/or dispatch.
• Must work well independently with proven organizational skills.
Plans and carries out responsibilities with minimal direction, ability to meet or exceed deadlines.
• Analytical, critical and creative thinker.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must have a professional presence.
• High level of integrity, accountability and ethics.
• Must be a team player. • Must be flexible in changing priorities.
• Ability to read and interpret roads maps
