Plant Accountant

Job Summary

Provides analysis of manufacturing costs to assist plant leadership in determining the root causes for deviation from forecasts and plans, and determines courses of action to address deviations; defines cost improvement opportunities; ensures generally accepted accounting practices and company policies are adhered to; calculates costs for materials, labor and manufacturing overhead by product line or as otherwise appropriate; maintains accounting controls for materials, work-in-progress and finished goods inventories; provides budgetary planning and determination of profit/loss including inventory valuation; and provides daily manufacturing data to plant management on operation conditions and efficiency. Assist the Controller.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Analyzes materials usage to ensure all materials are accounted for.
  2. Determines costs for each product for comparison to standard costs.
  3. Assists in establishing standard procedures.
  4. Assists materials and distribution personnel in the continuous improvement of cycle count inventory accuracy.
  5. Assists in monthly and annual physical inventories.
  6. Assists the WV Plant Controller and Plant Manager in the preparation of facility capital expenditures and operating expense budgets.  Maintains budgeted levels through appropriate meetings with the Plant Manager and all personnel assigned to budgeting responsibilities.
  7. Maintains due diligence, analyzes, and approves all facility utility bills, freight charges, etc.  Investigates and resolves abnormal variances.
  8. Performs regular audits of all accounting control functions of the facility.
  9. Prepares reports for the WV Plant Controller, Plant Manager and Corporate Accounting reflecting changes in operating/production costs, inventory record accuracy, material balance, etc.
  10. Maintains due diligence, analyzes changes, etc. and addresses potential issues or abnormalities.  As required, performs database administration of new item cost set-up as needed in support of product implementation teams.
  11. Participates as a facility management team member and supports corporate goals.  Provides education and training to teams as appropriate.
  12. Analyzes production data and reports results of weekly production data.  Reports/graphs trends on production data as appropriate.
  13. Facilitates month end close process.
  14. Maintains proper reconciliation to overall forecast/budget.
  15. Work with the Regional Plant Controller, Plant Managers, and Plant leadership teams to monitor, develop and implement internal controls at all manufacturing facilities.  Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

Plant Accountant must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Business, Accounting or Finance, experience in a manufacturing environment, and a willingness to learn. 
  • Experience with an ERP system such as Oracle preferred.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends & significant variations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written reports and verbally to peers, senior staff and in presentations.
  • Process & system orientation – driven to develop efficient and robust processes and procedures that minimize or eliminate non-value added activities and transactions.
  • Awareness of the need for accurate data and diligent in ensuring details are accurate and complete.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross functional organization or team.
  • Ability to work independently and with little supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to travel as needed to plant locations (WV, IL and CA)
  • Open to future relocation

Wages based on Experience and Education
Base Salary $75,000.
