Polisher/Buffer/Metal Finisher

Position Summary:

Works under the general direction of the General Foreman, responsible for polishing and buffing brass and aluminum parts to high-quality standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Polishing brass and aluminum parts using a variety of stationary and portable grinders, files, buffing wheels and sanders.
  • Grind, sand, clean, or polish parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Mixing specific chemicals to create aluminum polishing compounds of recommended concentrations.
  • Inspect finished work pieces to ensure adherence to polishing specifications.
  • Using numerous polishing techniques to give aluminum metals a mirror-like surface.
  • File grooved, contoured, and irregular surfaces of metal objects, such as metalworking dies and machine parts, to conform to templates, other parts, layouts, or blueprint specifications.
  • Follow work instructions to comply with customer expectations and industry standards.
  • Wear appropriate PPE including safety glasses, face shields, and gloves.
  • Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
  • Keep work area clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment.
  • Assist in other areas as needed when no material is ready for polishing.
  • Proactively support improvement of the department by providing suggestions and recommendation to the General Foreman.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of metal polishing and buffing experience is required.
  • At least one-year experience working in a production environment.
  • Experience working with brass and aluminum.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficient with power tools.
  • Diligence, attention to detail, and good eyesight.
  • Excellent dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Excellent reading comprehension and capacity to follow written directions.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
