This is a full-time position, working 40 hours onsite at client location in Concord, CA offices, and expected to last approximately 6 months with the possibility of being extended. Remote work is not permitted.

Location: Concord, CA

Duration: 6 months + contract

The Proofreader/Editor is responsible for proofreading and reviewing content for accurate use of grammar and style for various materials as well as formatting for consistency and accessibility. This role corrects any grammatical, typographical or compositional errors in content and design for digital materials. Additionally, the Proofreader/Editor ensures that documents adhere to various style guides and formats, and accessibility compliance guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities


•Review copy and make recommended changes using client, program-specific, and Chicago Manual of Style guidelines to produce error-free work for internal and external communication vehicles
•Review graphic layouts in all phases of completion to ensure that client’s branding and graphic standards are implemented correctly for internal and external communication vehicles
•Maintain a strong understanding of and familiarity with the CDE, and Chicago and style guides
•Develop copy of major internal and external communication vehicles as needed
•Proofread and review all print and electronic content for accurate use of grammar and style
•Serve as a fact checker for all materials including names of entities associated with the program
•Support the client’s requirements for all documents to be accessible based on the Section Federal 508 compliance regulations
•Provide additional support to team when necessary

Requirements


•Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field is required
•3-5 years of experience as an editor or proofreader in a professional environment
•Experience editing both technical and informational communications of short and long

•Previous writing experience desirable
•Must have a thorough knowledge of the rules of grammar, syntax, spelling and punctuation
•Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite as well as intermediate or advanced skills in MS Word preferred; experience with PowerPoint and other desktop publishing or graphic software a plus
•MS Word skills must include table formatting (creating and splitting tables and cells); style creation, modification, and application; page layout; and accessibility best practices; linking cross-references, hyperlinks, and bookmarks etc..
•Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
