Position Overview

Performing QC of subtitles as well as processing bug reports for language streams from Emulation QC, either internal or third party, for all clients.

Determining whether bugs reported require subtitles to be fixed and resupplied while ensuring they conform to industry and standards and client requirements.


Maintaining 100% on-time delivery and an average quality record of 98%.



  • Quality Control of subtitle files for various worldwide markets.
  • A variety of production tasks that require applied language skills, such as spotting, timing, translation, proof, reworking repurposed material, corrections, foreign dialogue verification
  • A variety of production tasks that require technical skills, using proprietary and commercial software, including script cleaning, rendering of subtitle images, video ingest
  • Vetting bugs in QC reports for English and foreign language streams and making revisions as necessary.
  • Providing justification for waiving bugs reported.
  • Checking that fixes applied to language subtitles conform to guidelines, as well as client requirements and project instructions.
  • Responsible for aid in research of redeliveries (corrected files that are re-delivered to Authoring or Digital packaging facility due to errors in first-time delivery) and in helping pinpoint areas for production improvement.
  • Coordinating with Account Managers and Account Coordinators to provide updates, clarify project and client requirements and request extensions as necessary.
  • Ensuring 100% on-time delivery for all clients.
  • Coordinating with native speakers of various languages to ensure revisions requiring linguistic input are made accurately and within deadline.
  • Providing feedback to various departments when standard procedure is not followed, so that quality measures are implemented upstream as well.
  • Communicating clearly and effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Following department-specific schedules, procedures and guidelines.
  • Escalating production and quality related issues to team leads and managers.
  • The role requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills, both of which play into daily responsibilities.
  • Proofreading of English subtitle ensuring audio, grammatical and stylistic accuracy of subtitles for major motion picture studios.
  • Creating, formatting and editing English subtitles and captions for a hard-of-hearing audience.
  • Performing audio fidelity quality checks (ensuring subtitles match the audio).
  • Localizing language and spelling for British and U.S. English releases.
  • Annotating cultural references and expressions as an aid to translators.
  • Manipulating English files using proprietary software to produce deliverable documents.


Education, Experience and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of the English language
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills essential
  • BA degree
  • Knowledge of other languages is considered an asset
  • Technical and computer-oriented, sound knowledge of MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Flexible and able to multi-task & Responds well under pressure of deadlines
