Summary: Performs receiving in-process and/or final inspection of hardware.  Conducts complex inspections as defined by quality/inspection plans or per directions of quality management/engineering.  Uses a complete range of precision tools and instruments requiring advanced inspection skills and techniques.  Ensures all gauge/tools used are properly calibrated.  Train and provide direction to junior and senior inspectors.  Identify accurate and efficient means of inspection techniques.  Works with general/minimal supervision.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Perform visual, routine and complex inspections using standard and sophisticated gages/tools.


Verify supplier material certifications, including special processes, and ensure compliance with quality/PO requirements.


Identify workmanship material defects; process discrepant material in accordance with appropriate quality procedures.


Verifies first articles from suppliers and internal departments.


Prepares and processes records and reports to document supplier/operations performance.


Qualify supplier components and/or systems for assuring conforming product.


Adheres to calibrations system of inspection, measuring and test equipment.


Applies Statistical Quality Control techniques as directed.


Assist with interpretation of drawings, specifications and quality requirements.


Properly process goods for outside processing, investigates and evaluates component parts returned and nonconforming product.


Prepares certification documentation when requested by customers or internal users.


Preforms other activities as assigned by quality supervision.

Identify, record and report quality problems or deficiencies related to products, processes, and quality systems.


Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.


Verify corrections to set-ups and on-going processes through inspections, tests and/or audits.


Qualifications: High school graduate.  A minimum of 2 years mechanical and/or assembly inspection.  Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings/diagrams and specifications.  Knowledge of Quality Assurance methods and principals; geometrics, metrology, statistical process control, inspection/calibration techniques, workmanship standards criteria, sampling plans, and familiarization with personal computers.  Requires inquisitive attitude and mature judgement in performing duties.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


Exposure to broad spectrum of fabrication processes is desired.  Industrial manufacturing, machining, and assembly of electro-mechanical components.
