Quality Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Perform in-process inspection of parts and materials for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments and devices. Experience with GD&T is helpful to perform the job task.
  • Assist with evaluating the receipt of materials to confirm material test reports meet specification requirements.
  • Sets-up and performs physical inspection of product using mechanical or electrical instruments for inspection.
  • Performs dimensional inspection using calipers and micrometers.
  • Performs inspections using surface roughness and profile measurement equipment.
  • Performs inspection duties utilizing engineering drawings and orders, route cards, inspection travelers, technical specifications, QA procedures and instructions and other related documents
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and specifications. Evaluates and documents results.
  • Assists with identifying causes of rejects and follows-through for corrective action.
  • Provide feedback to engineering, manufacturing and suppliers as required.
  • May include the training and certifications required to support future non-destructive testing capability.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in a technical field or applicable work experience
  • Minimum of one (1) years of inspection or quality experience in manufacturing, aerospace preferred.
  • Experience with using micrometers and calipers for precision measurement.
  • Ability to identify and appropriately document inspection results and non-conformance disposition.
  • Ability to summarize inspection results in a manner that allows management the opportunity to respond to trends in an effective manner.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds

 

Knowledge:

  • Possesses a knowledge and understanding of tooling, gauges, specifications, procedures
  • Moderate knowledge and understanding of industrial manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Blueprint reading skills for interpretation of drawings, notes, revisions, GD&T, tolerances and symbols
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Good working knowledge of statistics and metrics
  • Problem solving experience using root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement and experience implementing lean manufacturing

 

Job Related Specific Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and ERP/MRP systems
  • Moderate analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates strong communication and customer (both internal and external) interface skills
  • Moderate project management skills
  • Ability to work and interact with departments throughout and external to the organization
  • Ability to work alone or in a team environment with minimal instructions
  • Climate-controlled laboratory environment precision measurement.
  • Jet engine assembly and test cell environment.

 

Physical Requirements/Work Conditions

The performance of this position routinely requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, mandatory hearing protection and safety shoes.
