Railroad Employee

Direct Hire!

Railroad employees will: 1) apply/remove handbrakes on freight equipment, 2) operate switch stands, 3) mount and dismount moving and standing equipment from appropriate ladders, grabirons and sillsteps of railroad equipment, 4) use two-way hand-held radios with remote microphone and brakeman’s lantern, 5) wear the necessary safety equipment including but not limited to hardhats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, 6) process work orders, customer issues, various freight car types, hazardous material handling, distinguish color signals aspects and be familiar with Hours of Service regulations for Railroad Employees, Railroad Communications, and Railroad Operating Practices. Safe movement of the locomotives and freight cars will be dependent upon the successful candidate’s knowledge and judgment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must have a minimum of a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of experience working as a conductor, having obtained a Conductor’s Certificate per CFR title 49 part 242.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Candidates must have a proven safety record, as well as, skill and proficiency in the areas of switching and marshalling freight cars, train movements, interfacing with customers, and working within a team-oriented environment.
  • Candidates must possess the knowledge necessary to perform switching activities in a safe and efficient manner.
