Research Scientist

A Research Scientist job in Torrance, CA is available through Adecco Medical and Science with an innovative Biotechnology company. You must have your B.S or M.S in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Material Sciences and experience working with solution based wet coating techniques. You will be responsible for formulating, processing and characterizing polymer nanocomposite coatings for a variety of applications.

Research Scientist job responsibilities include:

Work under the direct supervision of R&D management to achieve technical objectives within the scope of the overall projects.
Identify, test and implement solutions to defined technical and project issues based on scientific knowledge, evaluation of the scientific literature, and laboratory research.
Design, develop and validate new materials and coating formulations based on proprietary technologies.
Perform laboratory studies to establish the design of polymer/polymer composite formulations in order to meet product specifications and project schedules.
Design protocols, perform experimental studies to evaluate and document the performance of prototype products relative to product performance and customer requirements.
Analyze data, evaluate results, form conclusions, and provide and/or implement product, process, or documentation improvements.
Document experimental protocols, results of studies and product design/development history in the form of laboratory notebook entries, written reports and/or company presentations. Documentation must meet protection of company intellectual property.
Prepare deliverables per internal or customer requirements
Work closely with cross-functional team members in a collaborative environment.
Develop project and work plans.
Adjust work schedule to meet time-sensitive project milestones.


B.S or M.S Degree holder in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Materials Science with 3-5+ years of relevant industrial experience will be considered.
Previous experience working with wet chemistry and formulations for commercial coatings preferred. Experience with synthesis/characterization of nanomaterials is a plus.
Prior experience with more than one of the following solution-based wet coating techniques – spin, dip, spray, doctor blade, cast or related methods is required
Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems in process development, test and validation environment.
Must be familiar with all basic materials processing/characterization lab equipment including viscometer, pH meter, Moisture Analyzer, FTIR, UV/VIS, Fluorescence
Prior experience in all aspects of developing and scaling up formulations and processes is a plus
Prior experience in contacting vendors, sourcing materials and backup options is a plus,
