Self-Driving Vehicle Operator

Responsible for operating and evaluating a self-driving vehicle in autonomous mode for six to eight hours per day, including collecting data and providing feedback.

Summary of Primary Duties:
  • Monitor automated driving software systems.
  • Operate a vehicle 6-8 hours a day alone, five days a week; able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Capable of responding quickly to changing and potentially high-pressure environments.
  • Provide concise, clear, and accurate verbal and written feedback regarding the vehicle’s operations.
  • Complete daily reports and document procedures and tests.
  • Interact with the members of the public and educate them on self-driving technology.
  • Work mostly individually but also in small groups of 2-10 people.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Minimum of five years of experience driving on public roads. Additional experience is preferred.
  • Valid driver license for the state(s) in which the self-driving vehicle operator will be working.
  • Meets driver requirements, including driving record & criminal history, under applicable regulations and laws in the state (s) in which the self-driving vehicle operator will be working.
    • Does not have more than one point on driving record.
    • Has not been convicted for driving or operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or any drug, and has not had any driver's license suspension or revocation based on driving or operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol or of any drug in the past 10 years; and
    • Has not ever been the at-fault driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident that resulted in injury or death of any person.
  • Meet all applicable statutory requirements for criminal background records.
  • Comply with zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of alcohol or drugs by self-driving vehicle operators during a shift, including randomized drug testing, as required by state law.
  • Able to work either early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
  • Able to type at least 40 wpm.
  • Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (Gmail, Hangouts, and Drive, including Sheets and Docs).
  • Proficiency with using a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred but not required).
  • Ability to parallel park with minimal assistance.
  • Upon acceptance of work, must be willing to be enrolled in a commercial driving program, including a randomized drug testing program as required by state law.
