Senior Editor (Temporary)

Adecco Creative is assisting our client, a well-known and respected children’s educational publisher, in their search for a temporary Senior Editor to cover a maternity leave within the department. The position will start in early May and is expected to last for approximately 5-6 months. The position will start as a full-time role, working 35 hours per week for the first 12-14 weeks of the leave, and then will drop down to a part time role, working 14 hours per week for the last 8 weeks.

Responsibilities will Include:

  • Pitch feature, department, and news ideas
  • Write one feature per issue
  • In coordination with managing editor, assign and edit one freelance feature per issue
  • Oversee Q&As with scientists and engineers: write or assign / edit one per issue
  • Contribute photo request info, write all captions, contribute worksheet ideas, review worksheets and lesson plans as needed, and oversee circulating proofs
  • Mail complimentary issues to freelancers and sources for all articles you oversee
  • Other duties as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in English, journalism, education, science, or a related field
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in journalism, educational publishing, or a related field
  • Proven writing, editing, and proofreading abilities
  • High-level reporting and research skills
  • Passion for education and a flair for presenting information in an engaging way
  • Knowledge of middle school education, Next Generation Science Standards, and Common Core State Standards a plus
