The Shipping/Receiving Clerk is responsible for preparing the pack lists and sheets for the loads shipping each day.  Furthermore, the shipping/receiving clerk processes all paperwork that travels with each load and ensures that the loads are properly documented.  This person also helps maintain all traffic records and updates the outbound master routing guide as required.  Billing of the loads and regular customer interface, both internal and external, are also a critical part of the job.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Prepare necessary paperwork to accompany outbound shipments and perform the required computer transactions to ensure that inventory is properly received and located.
  • Process necessary paperwork to receive goods with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Document information about loads and store shipping/receiving records in an appropriate location according to the corporate record retention guidelines.
  • Review and print parts packing and LTL pack lists.
  • Print load sheets for full truckloads.
  • Assign load numbers to all outbound shipments.

 

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize loads according to supervisor’s daily lineup.
  • Schedule carriers (LTL and sometimes Truckload) to come in and pick up their fright.
  • Prepare any necessary export documentation required to accompany load.
  • Maintain outbound routing guides in a manner such that information can be easily accessed.
  • Computes freight charges and records the charges on the appropriate documents.
  • Scan axle tickets using the bar code scanning system as required for traceability.
  • Prepare and ship UPS shipments, compute the freight charges, and bill properly.
  • Operate a fork truck when necessary to pick up/drop off loads
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated work experience with computer software programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Internet, Word, Excel, and office databases. 
  • Must be able to be moderately proficient with the use of a keyboard and/or PC.
  • Moderate typing skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a fork truck
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Must be able to pass client specific background and drug screenings
  • Must be able to work on first shift in Frankfort, KY

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer candidate with some college coursework.
  • Prefer candidate with experience in a manufacturing environment.
