Summary:
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for supporting all of the financial and accounting aspects of the Manufacturing process, including inventory monitoring and reconciliations, work order processing, monthly close processes, monthly/quarterly reporting. The cost accountant books journal entries related to recurring sales, standard costs, and other cost of sales allocations, manufacturing variances as well as the related payable, receivable or inventory. Responsible for general ledger accounting on P&L from sales through net margin and inventory accounts on the balance sheet. Cost accounting, revenue recognition, variance analysis, ERP systems accounting, inventory & sales reconciliation.

Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):

  • Perform month-end close accounting responsibilities in ERP including journal entries.
  •  Performs monthly general ledger account reconciliations and analysis.(inventory, sales, costs)
  • Book revenue recognition for recurring sales and the corresponding costs in the local general ledger and prepare detail for sales flash and sales margin report to be published to parent company in BFC(SAP) consolidated reporting system.
  • Review and reconcile all inventory account valuations to include, raw material, work in progress and finished goods, consignment and intercompany transactions, reserves for excess and obsolete inventory, overhead capitalization and capitalized variances.
  • Provide analytical insight and support of manufacturing variances, purchase price variances, inventory reserves, labor efficiency, material usage/cost, rework and scrap.
  • Plan and organize activities of cost accounting in support of monthly close activities, including preparation of journal entries and accruals seeking continuous process improvement.
  • Assist in the completion of cycle counts to ensure the completeness of the inventory
  • Perform special analysis as needed to support manufacturing and engineering
  •  Responsible for analysis of cost variances
  •  Responsible for monthly closing for all cost accounting transactions
  • Develop annual overhead rates
  •  Responsible for coordination of year-end audit related to cost/inventory
  • Performs preparation and inputting of monthly journal entries into general ledger.
  • Assists in preparation of monthly financial package and consolidated package.
  •  Assists in annual audit by internal and external auditors.
  •  Management and responsibility for systems and reporting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods
  • Prepare periodic and monthly analyses that identify trends in inventory levels including shrinkage and obsolescence
  •  Accurately estimate and calculate obsolete inventory reserves at month-end
  • Coordinate with the IT department on ERP system maintenance and developments to improve cost accounting function
  • Perform special projects as assigned by management
Knowledge and Skills:
  •  Must have knowledge of manufacturing general accounting
  • Must have a working knowledge of general ledger account reconciliation.
  • Must be able to use PC spreadsheet software.
  •  Must have good organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work to deadlines.
  • Possess a solid understanding of accounting concepts
  • Proficient in Excel (macros, v-look ups and pivot tables)
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • .Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
Education and Experience:
  •  Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience required in general accounting for a manufacturing company(cost accounting experience preferred)
  • MBA, CPA or CMA a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong understanding of general ledger and reconciliations
  • Understanding of ERP systems, preferably MAPICS / AS400 or M3
  • Must have the ability to generate written communication and to operate required office equipment. Ability to read and review written communication. Speech and hearing abilities that allow individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English.
  • Ability to solve problems and think strategically.
  • This position requires extended periods of sitting while working with computers and viewing computer monitors and other office equipment. Finger dexterity needed in using misc. office equipment such as telephone, computer and copy machine, etc. Bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to approximately twenty pounds are required during tasks related to the job.
