Technical Writer

Our client is the world's largest search engine, We are currently looking for a Developer Writer to support one of their product area teams.

The product area team is looking for a technical writer to work on internal developer documentation. If you're an experienced developer writer, know how engineers think and what they need to know to do their job, and like bringing order out of chaos, this job is for you! Your audience is internal engineers, and you'll work with technical leads, technical managers, and program managers to set priorities and tackle the most important jobs first. You're not intimated by complex technologies, and you enjoy simplifying difficult concepts and tasks and presenting them clearly in your straightforward, easy-to-understand prose. Your style is action-oriented and proactive. The team encompasses hundreds of engineers worldwide and focuses on data and images for any entity that has a geographic location. Gathering, processing, verifying, storing, and delivering this data through apps is an ever-expanding and awesome adventure for us.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Learn complex technical information and write technical documentation—including architectural overview, programming guides, and tutorials—for internal engineers.
  • Produce clear and succinct educational materials on the web for developers who are in a big hurry to get a task done.
  • Manage docs written by engineering teams and drive active contributions.
  • Edit documents written by others; coach engineers to improve their writing skills.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience)
  • Proven track record of researching and writing effective documentation for developers, including architectural overviews and programming guides.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working closely with engineers.
  • Can create well-organized docs that help impatient engineers get up to speed quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp complex technical concepts and communicate them to a technical audience.

Preferred

  • Ability to document source code written in Java, Objective C, or JavaScript. Proficiency with HTML and CSS.
  • Experience using UNIX environments, scripting languages, developer tools, and version control systems.
