Project Overview:

This role requires extensive knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, significant creativity and flexibility. Your day may involve conducting expert interviews or site visits to understand a new domain, synthesizing findings into opportunity spaces for technical exploration, or testing early concepts or more advanced hardware or software prototypes with potential users.

Overall Responsibilities:

The job of the User Experience Researcher is to identify insights about the intended user, space, or domain of a moonshot—informing concept generation, product/business requirements, or market focus, as well as evaluating them against user needs, ergonomics and usability.

 

Current early-stage projects include robotics, energy, and a range of still-secret innovations.

Top Daily Responsibilities:

  • Working independently but with oversight from a research manager you will...
  • Collaborate with multiple project teams comprised of scientists, engineers, and product managers to scope, develop and execute on early and mature-stage product research incorporating both generative and evaluative methodologies.
  • Design research plans and study materials in collaboration with stakeholders and design team members
  • Conduct key research activities including in-context fieldwork, interviews, survey design, literature reviews, and other forms of formative, iterative, and evaluative research.
  • Understand and translate complex technical and business requirements into research objectives and questions.
  • Identify new opportunities for high-impact research and execute on them.
  • Write and present research findings and insights to cross-disciplinary teams in a clear, concise, and compelling way.
  • Find ways to invite design, engineering, and strategy into the research process, to foster deeper understanding and collaboration.

Required:

  • BA/BS Degree in: in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of work experience in user experience research as part of a product or service development team, with strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles of design research, including superb qualitative and survey-writing skills.
  • Evidence of your work contributing to improving the delivery of product or service Interest in product development and experience in connecting research findings with new product ideas.
  • Must be independent, proactive, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • A desire to move quickly and innovate on the way we do research.
    Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, negotiation, and collaboration skills.

     

Desired

  • MA/MSc Degree in: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Anthropology, Innovation, Service Design
  • Experience working in a fast paced user experience research agency
